Episode 25 - Top 5 Paul Stanley Songs

After a week spent in Bizarro World, we're back to discuss something *GASP* KISS-related. We'll give you a second to pick your jaw back up. Ready? Okay.
The Tour
With the recent announcement of the upcoming Summer tour featuring KISS & Motley Crue, we decided that now is as good a time as ever to devote a show to our favorite Starchild, Paul Stanley.

The Starchild
For almost 40 years, Paul Stanley has provided audiences all over the world some awesome musical contributions. No matter what is in fashion, be it disco, new romantic, heavy metal, hair metal, etc, Paul has been able to tap into a genre and produce relevant results.
The List
Today, Mitch Lafon of Bravewords.com joins Chris Czynszak for a discussion of their favorite Paul Stanley-penned KISS tunes. Co-host Aaron Camaro has his voice in the shop this week for repair but does chime in during the intro and outro of the show. He will be back next week.

The Tribute
Today's show is dedicated to the memory of Tony Whitfield; a Decibel Geek listener and avid KISS fan that we lost too soon recently. Tony loved rock and roll and KISS as much as anyone and he carried that torch for all his days through his own projects and ventures.

We salute Tony in this episode with a testimonial from friend Cassius Morris of the Creatures of the Net podcast at the end of the episode. Rock on in Heaven Tony!

The Final Word
So, without further ado, check out Mitch and Chris' picks for favorite Paul Stanley tunes!

Chris and Aaron,

Superb show idea. Paul Stanley is my favorite vocalist/song writer/frontman of all time. So I loved this show. I don't know Mr. Whitfield, but your tribute to him was very nice. I'm sure his family and friends really appreciate it.

Well, needless to say, I'd love to add my Top 5 Paul Stanley songs (from official Kiss albums). Of course, I could have easily put 2 on here from the '78 solo album, but since it's against the rules, I won't. And by the way, my list would probably change tomorrow. Here goes:

5. Who Wants To Be Lonely - Chris said Tears Are Falling was the best non-makeup Kiss song, and he was almost right. It is the second best. WWTBL is from the same album and is my favorite non-makeup song.

4. Room Service - From Dressed To Kill, this is a great lead track that kicks a very tight, crisp album into motion. DTK does not get enough credit. Listen to how much better and tighter the playing and production are on this album. And Room Service is the proto-typical Kiss song about...SEX.

3. Mr. Speed - Seriously, listen to that rhythm guitar that plays all the way through this song. Maybe the best ever on a Kiss song, imitated but not duplicated on the excellent 1985 song Secretly Cruel by Gene.

2. Nowhere To Run - From the part compilation, part new studio track album Killers. Paul's vocal and emotion on this song are just off the chart.

1. I Stole Your Love - I'm in total agreement with Mitch on this one. Of course, I prefer studio versions of all of these songs, but if I could pick one song that just blows everything else away live, this would be it. I can't remember which concert it was on Kissology, but this song opened the show and Paul's energy was amazing.

If you need 15, 20 or 25 more Paul songs, just let me know.
